Top Ten List - Winter TV shows

I can't believe that the month of January is almost over.  Where the heck has the time gone.  This Tuesday I'm making a top 10 list of my favorite winter TV shows.  I have some many guilty pleasures when it comes to TV.  I guess some that I am a little embarassed about watching and some that I am sure most of you all watch along with me.  Happy reading and watching!!

Laura's Top Ten Winter TV Shows:

       1)   Pretty Little Liars:  For being a 20-something you would think that I would not have anything to relate to this show since it is based to high school girl, but I love it!!  I have read the 5 of the books that have been published and love them.  The show does follow the books pretty well.

2).  Smash:  So happy that NBC decided to bring Smash back.  It show hasn't started back yet, but I can not wait to see how everything plays out with Marlyn Monroe!

3).  The Carrie Diaries:  I am usually not a fan or CW original series besides Gossip Girl, but I found this show from a friend of mine who was tweeting about it and how they thought it was a perfect age appropriate Sex in the City.  I started DVRing it and watched all three episode's last night and loved them.

4).  Real Housewives of Atlanta:  Nothing like some trashy TV when I am feeling down about myself.  Growing up North of Atlanta, this is nothing that I remember seeing in my 20 years of living there.  Most of these women on the show do live in North of Atlanta, not even in Atlanta.  They drink, party, and eat in the city limits but live no where near the city.  But what do I know.  These women right now are fighting over a Donkey Booty!

5).  Duck Dynasty:  Redneck fun at its best.  I can get sucked into this show for hours.  I love it!!  I can only hope that one day I can I will be able to have that much fun with my friends and family at the lake.

6).  Archer:  This is my favorite adult cartoon.  If you are into dirty cartoons and tv that you do not have think about while watching and really funny.  Tune into Archer!  My boyfriend and I love watching this show late on the weekend.

7).  American Idol:  Lets be honest, the best part of American Idol is the try-outs.  I love seeing the heartfelt stories and of course the singers who can not sing.

8).  Downton Abbey:  I just started watching this show.  I am on season 2 right now and I can not wait to see how everything states to unfold.

9).  Girls:  This show reminds me of our generations Sex in the City but not as glamorous.  I am waiting and  waiting for the newest season to start.

10).  Jeresylicious:  Another trashy reality TV show... I know I know... That's all I have to say about it!

What are some of your favorite and or guilty pleasure winter TV shows?!?!  I'd love to hear about them and know if I am missing out on any good shows.

Manners and Etiquette

Over the past few weeks I feel like I have been an etiquette Nazi with certain things.  Don’t get me wrong I am no where near up to Emily Post standards but I have read the two of her books on etiquette.  I am not sure if I am just old fashion when it comes to some of the things about manners and etiquette but don’t get me wrong a nice thank you note is always greatly appreciated.  My biggest pet-peeves about manners and etiquette are:
  1. Putting a napkin on your lap when eating:  I have been taught this since I was a little girl, I even put my napkin on my lap when were eating at McDonald's.  I don’t want to watch you wipe your hands and see the paper napkin falling over the salsa we are sharing at the table.  Yes, if you have food on your face please wipe it but don’t put your used napkin on the table when were eating
  2. A Thank-you note goes along way:  My parents have pushed into my head that you always write a thank you note for even the smallest gifts or if you go to a friend/families house for a dinner or extended stay.  I have been to a handful of weddings, showers and or birthday get together that I have not received a thank you note for either the gift.  And believe me it always get’s brought up between me and my other etiquette Nazi friend.
  3. The Double-Dip:  Yes I know that this is an infamous Seinfeld episode but if your not Kin or dating the people you are sharing a dip with only put your chip in once.  It’s simple people, either take a bite size chip and dip or pick your chip, dip your chip and then take two bites of your chip.
  4. Cell Phone Usage:  I know we are all guilty of being on our phones either talking, texting, tweeting and or  facebooking.  But if you are with people in a small social gathering do not be on your phone.  If you would rather be texting someone who is not there maybe you should of made plans with them and not the people you are with.  The worse is when you are in the car with someone, you’re the driver and the passenger is caring on a phone conversation and or texting nonstop.  Its rude!
  5. Social Media:  Facebook and Twitter are huge with everyone, except for parents and I would like to keep it that way.  But posting ever little thing you do, place you visit and TV show you are watching is crazy and secretly know one really cares.  Unless your somewhere different or far away land/country.  If your going to write a status and I have to “continue reading” I usually know that it is not really that important.  Or heck if you do it every day, start a blog!  I understand that your child drank through s straw for the first time or your dog is cuddling with the cat, but I do not really need to see 1 millions photo’s of it.   When did Facebook become “brag book’.   (As you can tell I do not have any children or pets and I hope and pray that if I do have either of the two I will only post a photo here and there.
  6. Profanity:  Most of us do go through that phase of curse that and f that and she’s such a B.  But once you hit that 25+ year old mark most people stop it with being ever other word.  I absolutely hate hearing people curse in public.  Yes, you may say “shit or something else” if you stub your toe in public.  But if your going to talk like a sailor in public get on the ship with them or keep it at home.
  7. PDA:  Once again were all guilty of stealing a kiss or a hug from a significant other when out in public.  But seeing people full on make out, looking like they are going to eat each other is gross.  And yes seeing it is gross, but hearing about what your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife is going to do with you when you walk in the door or when the two of you get home is even grosser.  I do not want to ever hear or even think of getting a mental picture of that.  I don’t care how cute of a couple you are!  Sex and other relations is a personal thing lets all keep it that way!
  8. Parenting:  I am not sure how to exactly go about this subject, since I am childless, but as an observer...  I absolutely hate seeing children run around the grocery store or restaurant with mom and or dad yelling at he child.  Then the child sass's back at them like an adult would do.  Finally the parents laugh at the child like it is all right for them to talk to their elders like that!  In my opinion, its parents that lack discipline or they encourage their child’s horrible behavior.  These children as they turn into adults will end up grow up rude and ungrateful and expect everything to be handed to them.  If I ever sassed back that my parents like some of the kids do, I would have been taken out of the restaurant and probably given a light spanking or put into timeout in the car.
  9.
Are there any manners or etiquette that you see with friends, family and or the general public that drives you crazy?

It's OK Thursday!!

Its Ok Thursdays
Happy Friday Eve!!  Since nothing is going on in the world of Laura.  I have been really boring and cold lately (sorry y'all) I am going to be linking up with Amber and Neely and Amber with "Its OK Thursdays"

Its Ok…

… to be excited that New Kids on the Block (with Boys to Men and 98*) are touring again. NKYOB was my first concert in ’89 with Tiffany.  My poor dad took me to that concert for my birthday with two other girls when we were in Kindergarten.  I am sure that is what started his hearing loss.

… to dream about having a housekeeper when cleaning your house and living in about 1500 square feel alone.  I am not sure how I make such a big mess all the time.  And yes, I would love mints on the pillow and a turn down service around 8:30-9:00pm.

… that I sometimes get frustrated with my friends.

… to sing as loud as you can at home when cooking.

… to ask why your milkshake doesn’t bring the boys to the yard anymore
… when a man looks your way and smiled to think “yes, Laura’s still got it!"  (Yes, I told Bryan about my run in at Subway... he just laughed)
… to cry or get teary-eyed when they show some of the background stories on American Idol.

… to want a dog and deep down inside know you will probably never have one.   I think I should just stick with fish

… to fall in love with a purse and hope and pray to get it for valentine’s day

What are you "Ok" with this Thursday.
TGIF and I can't wait to have a nice slow weekend with Bryan!

Happies & Crappies #1

Join The Vintage Modern Wife & Scissors and a Whisk for their Friday blog link up- Happies & Crappies!I was catching up on some of my favorite blogs and came across a new link up called Happies & Crappies put on by The Vintage Modern Wife.  This is the first week of this link-up and I am so excited that I found it and hope that every one goes and links up!  And lets be honest. the button is wicked cute and totally caught my attention because of the glitter!!

Happies!
  1.  Bryan got his new car last week!!  Sally the Sorento is officially the newest member to the household.  I was so worried that things were going to take forever (you know how car shopping is), but it didn't and I would go back and highly recommend Bulldog Kia in Athens, GA. They made purchasing the car easy and I LOVE easy!
  2. The cold weather.  Now I know that most southern girls complain about the cold weather.  I am not a HUGE fan of the colder weather, but living on the lake we always need a few good colf freezes to kill off the mosiquot's.   I will take a few nights of cold for less bugs over the summer any time
  3. The Amy Winehouse Pandora Station:  It made me fall back in love with her all over again.  Another life lost to soon.
  4. Pitch Perfect!!  If you have not see this movie go and redbox it!  It is crazy funny!  Get your girlfriends together, sing and laugh the whole movie.
  5. Justin Timberlake's newest song!  So so so happy he is finally going to bring sexy back and release new music!
 Crappies!
  1. Negative People:  I am so sick of people complaining about how "hard" they have it!!  Do something (like get a real job) instead of sitting at home watching soap operas, tweeting and complaining about being broke!
  2. The flu/cold or whatever is going around and work.  I am by far not a germ-a-phob and I do not believe in getting shots for the flu so I am hoping that I am not going to get what is passing around
  3. Not working for a bank and or having a government job.  Mostly because I do not want to go to work on Monday and all my friends are off because of the MLK day holiday.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend even though it is flying by (like always).  Don't forget to link up and I can't wait to read what everyone's Happies & Crappies are!!

Music Monday - Over You

Good Evening,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend.  I think I am finally over my cold/cough that I've had since the Holidays.  I watched 4 movies and a lot of football over the weekend.  It was the most relaxing weekend I have had in a very long time.  It was exactly what I needed.

This afternoon while cruising the blogs I found a new link-up with Angie for Monday.  I am very excited about this link-up because I LOVE music.  I like this link-up so that maybe I can find some new music that I may of never been able to find myself.

This week the song that I can not get over is Miranda Lambert's "Over You".

Weather man said it’s gonna snow
By now I should be used to the cold
Mid-February shouldn’t be so scary
It was only December
I still remember the presents, the tree, you and me

But you went away
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I’ll be OK
But I’m not going to ever get over you

Living alone here in this place
I think of you, and I’m not afraid
Your favorite records make me feel better
Cause you sing along
With every song
I know you didn’t mean to give them to me

But you went away
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I’ll be OK
But I’m not going to ever get over you

It really sinks in, you know, when I see it in stone

Cause you went away,
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I’ll be OK
But I’m not going to ever get over you

I know that this song has been out for a while.  But I did some research about the song and it was written by her husband Blake Shelton about when he lost his brother.  The first time hearing this song I thought that it was about a break-up, but now knowing why it was written, it makes me think of my grandmother and also a friend of mine that I lost in high school.  The last few weeks every time I hear this song, I have to turn it up, sit back, listen and usually let the tears fall down my cheek's.

What song's are you listening to this week.  Link up with Angie and let her and I (her newest follower) know!

Hope everyone had a weekend!

Its OK Thursdays

This Thursday I am linking up with Neely and Amber, with their "It's OK" Thursdays.  Hope everyone's week isn't going as cra-cra as mine is, because; Holy Crap! I am so happy that today is Thursday! This has been the weeks or weeks! We have been crazy busy at work with the beginning of the year orders. Personal life has been a little hectic too. Bryan's truck more or less died on us last night so we are going to be buying a new car tonight (hopefully, it has to happen today or tomorrow).

Its Ok Thursdays
Here goes nothing!

It's Ok...

To go home and cry after a long day of work (this was my first time in 4 years with this ever happening to me)
To be scared to make a huge purchase, like a car
To want to have some "alone time" after the wicked crazy holiday rush
To over think things!!
To not BELIEVE in the flu shot!!!
To keep secrets about yourself....
To not be in a rush to get married and or have kids, everyone has a different path in life!!
To dream in color!
To sing really loud at work when no one is here
To still go on daddy-daughter dated when your 29 years old
To be heartbroken from losing an important and significant piece of jewelry.
To send hint's for valentine days presents

Happy Friday Eve to you all and please keep good  thoughts about B and I this evening when were at the car dealership and the new car (still not going to curse us on what we want and hope to get) works out!

10 on Tuesday

10onTuescohosted 180x

Good Afternoon!  This Tuesday I am linking up with Linny's Vault's for 10 on Tuesday. It's been a Pandora/semi-slow day at work so here goes nothing!

Pretty Little Liars
1.  Pretty Little Liars is back!!!

2.  My new I-phone and case. I finally joined the cool kid club

3.  Emailing Kelly.  I am glad that we have modern forms of communication between us.

4.  It's official next week I will be starting couch to 5k.  (If anyone knows a good app on the Iphone please let me know!!!)

5.  Today's Country and Angie Aparo station on Pandora.  I could go all day listening those stations.

6.  This morning I found my college old favorite pair of earrings.  I thought I lost them in the lake a few summer ago.  Low and behold they were in the box where they should of been.   (my mom would of be proud I put something back where it belongs)
Jolly Rancher candies
7.   Jolly M-F'ing Ranchers!!  I am addicted!

8.  Kimya's baby.  (rant please watch out)  I am so sick and tired of hearing about this baby!  I will admit I do watch Keeping up with the Kardashians when its on re-run or its a slow weekend on TV.  But I feel so bad for Khloe.  She is the only one of the three older sisters that "did it right" (got married first) and she can not get preggers.  God sometimes has some serious plans for people.

9.  Knowing that I get to see my BFF Rose this weekend makes me happy

10.  Miranda Lambert "Mama's broken heart" I wish I had heard this song about a year ago.  It would of been my theme song for a certain person.  - (There is no official video, but I love the song!!)

Hope everyone enjoys my 10 on Tuesday.  What are your favorite things that are going on this week??

Out with the OLD and in with the....

2013... dang where has the time gone.  I mean your only 7 days old and I still am procrastinating on a "New Years Resolution" (which I have never ever ever stuck too)!  I guess that this year will be the year of the procrastinator in me or will it be the year of sticking and holding onto the old.  I know that most people like to think... A NEW YEAR A NEW ME.  But what if you loved everything that has happen or you have done the past year?!?

As I sit here thinking about all the what ifs that may happen this year.  Then I think about all the wonderful things that happen in 2012 and I realize that 2012 was a AWESOME year!  There were some highlights (my birthday weekend, football season, summer by the lake) and of course some rock bottom times (especially when my grandmother died) but a lot more highs then lows! Bryan and I's relationship is stronger then ever.  I have the best friends a girl can have.  I am so happy with my job.  I think I have a pretty damn good life (in my opinion).  I don't think that I want the old to leave; I want it to stick with me for the next few forever's!

I know that there are a few things that I need to work on this year which include:
  1. Eating Right (always)
  2. Exercise More (isn't it normal to put this as a resolution)
  3. Stay in touch (not just stalking them on facebook) with friends and family
  4. Try and experience new things
  5. Be open to those who want to help with the little things aka don't be so hard-headed!
  6.  Be open to meeting new people
  7. Trying to update my blog a lot more (at lease 3 times a week)
But doesn't every one think they need to work out more or eat better!?!?  If I can attempt to stick with those 7 things I think 2013 will be a little more exciting and a lot more open to new adventures!

I'm ready to plan some adventures for 2013!!  Hopefully New Orleans is on the radar for November!  Is there anything that you are looking forward to doing this year?!?!

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful first full week of 2013 and had a wonderful (late) Holiday Season
-Laura
